Divine Story

The Legend of Bheemashankar

According to ancient Hindu mythology, the demon Bhima, son of Kumbhakarna, sought revenge against Lord Vishnu for his father's death. After gaining immense power through severe penance, Bhima began tormenting sages and disrupting religious rituals across the land.

Unable to bear his atrocities, the gods prayed to Lord Shiva for intervention. In response to their prayers, Lord Shiva manifested in his divine form and engaged in a fierce battle with the demon. After a tremendous struggle, Shiva destroyed Bhima, restoring peace and dharma to the region.

It is said that the sweat that fell from Lord Shiva's body after this epic battle formed the sacred Bhima River, and the divine light that emanated from him became the Bheemashankar Jyotirlinga, blessing this sacred land forever.
